BZA member Peter Kramer asked about a second trailer on the property. Bowers said that that trailer belonged to someone else who wanted to sell it, who had asked to be allowed to display it on the Bowers’ property and that the trailer has been sold and should be moved soon.
The Planning Commission’s recommendation in the case was delivered by BZA member James Swindler who represents the BZA on the Planning Commission. “The Planning Commission decided that the apartment could be used for a caretaker or watchman, but not for a permanent residence,” Swindler said. “Another question that was expressed was can you have a residence in a place of business that sells explosives.”
Bowers said that a minimal amount of fire works is kept in the store and that black powder is stored in a cinder block shed behind the store. The floor (of the store) is completely concrete, the sides are steel, the ceiling is steel and the only wood that is in the building is the paneling that is in the store area,” Bowers said.
The family had looked for housing to buy or rent in the Amissville area, but Bowers said that nothing could be found. “We have to live somewhere,”
