In second was Cobrador, owned and ridden by Ford Rogers of Gainesville. Barbara Batterton of Berryville finished third on her Duckets For Dad.

Following the open hurdle race the juniors came onto the course for a flat race.

In the pony division Dawn Dugan of Catharpin, who had won the junior pairs race earlier that day, sped to an easy eight-length victory on her Sharp Start. It was the fourth consecutive year the pair had won the race at Rappahannock.

Hill Parker won the second division of the junior race in a two-horse battle between his mother’s Mean And Medium and Arlene Roemer’s Erin’s Delight, ridden by Isabel Ford.

A good field went to the post for the owner-rider hurdle race, sixth on the eight-race card. In previous years this division has had a small number of entries so it was encouraging to see a six-hor e field.
