Reunion planned
The annual reunion of the family of the late Alfred and Catherine Gearing Jenkins will be held Sunday, August 9 at Rappahannock Park on Route 211, Washington. All friends and relatives are urged to attend. Lunch will be served at 12:30.
Dance at Amissville
The band Royal Tones will play for a dance sponsored by the Amissville Volunteer Fire Department Saturday, August 8, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Proper dress is required and persons attending must be 21 years of age. For reservations or additional information call 9374357.
‘Of Human B ondage’
Of Human Bondage is playing at the Gay Street Theatre tonight, July 23 at 7:30 p.m. Bette Davis and Leslie Howard co-star in this 1934 classic. Many feel it is Ms. Davis’ best film. “I only got the part because no other star wanted to play such a despicable woman,” said Ms. Davis of her role as the nasty Mildred. She once described her career in Hollywood by saying, “I was the first star who ever came out of the I water looking wet.”
4-H summer camp
4-H Junior High Camp for grades 7-9 will be held August 30-September 3 at the 4-H Center near Front Royal. Cost for camp is $70; registration deadline is August 1. Call the Extension Office at 6753619 or come by to pick up a form.
Flint Hill Carnival, July 29-Aug. 1
Promising a really good time, with lots of fun, games and good food, plus exciting carnival rides, the Flint Hill VFD publicity committee said that the place to be next week will be the fire department’s annual carnival.
Moe Walker said that Thursday’s parade, beginning at 6:30 p.m., will feature the newly-crowned Miss Virginia, Heidi Lammi. There will also be a 100-piece marching band from Pennsylvania, rmgorettes, clowns, Shrine units, antique cars and, of course, many fire and rescue units. Box suppers will be sold at the carnival grounds beginning at 5 p.m.
The Department of Transportation’s State Fair exhibit will be displayed at the fire hall during all four nights.
Opening night on Wednesday will be family night, with all rides for one low-priced ticket. On Saturday, the carnival’s variety of prizes will be awarded, including a 1987 Chevette, a Black Angus cow, and two Redskins season tickets. “Come on out to the carnival and greet old friends and meet new ones,” Mr. Walker said.
