Employees of the Virginia high'> department, their relatives and friends last week contributed 96 wilts of blood in memory of Ronald nillen, an inspector with the highway department, who died July 9 from injuries suffered three weeks earlier in a construction site accident at Catlett.
More than 100 people showed up w sPec'a* Bloodmobile at the Warrenton Rescue Squad headquarters on June 14 as a gesture of appreciation for the blood given Mr. Pullen, who used more than 200 units before his death. Red Cross officials, who supplied the Bloodmobile, explained that the Red Cross does not charge for blood it furnishes from its blood bank, nor does it ask that it be replaced. But in exceptional cases, such as that of Mr. Pullen, it does cooperate with a blood drive as a memoriam.
Benjie Atkins, a highway department contract administrator who organized the special blood drive, said donors came from Rappahannock and Culpeper counties, as well as from Fauquier. Among them were 39 who had never before donated blood. He said that the highway department is grateful to all who participated.

Sunrise 5K
The Fauquier County Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor the second annual Sunrise 5K Women’s Road Race on Saturday, Aug. 15, beginning at 7 a.m. at Fauquier High School. Pre-registration must be completed by August 13, the cost is $5. Race-day registration will be accepted from 6 until 6:45 a.m. with a cost of $8.
Sport bags will be awarded to all finishers with additional awards to overall and division winners. Age divisions are: 15 and under, 16-20, 2125, 26-30, 31-35, 36-40, 41-50, 51-60, and 60 and older.
The 3.1 mile course is fairly flat, fast and scenic, running past beautiful Broadview Farm, former site of The Virginia Gold Cup.
