Retirement is still too new for Mrs. Butler to have decided how she’ll fill the hours once devoted to teaching Rappahannock’s children. “I’d probably go on back again to help out if they needed me, but I don’t want the rigid schedule of working every day. My husband is retired now, and we want to spend some time together, just doing what we want to do.” Her only immediate plans are for short trips to visit old friends and aged relatives.
The Butlers’ youngest daughter, Doretha, graduated from RCHS in June and will be at Virginia Tech this fall. “We’re going to stay close until she graduates,” Mrs. Butler said. “Then, who knows?” she added, smiling at the possibilities.
