As country store owners, small independent and franchise gas stations and other retail outlets which handle only relatively small quantities of gasoline have found, removal is a far more likely option than replacement of the tanks. “I’ll probably just give up my tanks,” said Graham Hackley, the owner of Hackley’s Store on U.S. 211 in Amissville. With more than 50 years in business serving the Amissville community and as one of the oldest franchise distributors of Texaco gasoline, Mr. Hackley said he was surprised to see his name listed as one of the sites affected by the law. “I didn’t even know about this until I saw my name mentioned in a Fauquier Times-Democrat article,” he said, adding that he has not been notified by his distributor that his gasoline account, active without interruption since 1934, is being closed. “I guess I’ll be hearing.”
