While the eyes of practically everyone else was focused on the main event, I had the luck to witness a jovial reunion during the inaugural day ceremonies in Richmond.

Dignitaries had already started taking their places on the platform, with the noon starting time just ten minutes away, when former Virginia governors Albertis S. Harrison and Mills Godwin came into “Chicken’s” Snack Bar in the State Capitol in search of its proprietor, Louise Oliff.

Mrs. Oliff, caUed “Chicken” because of the chicken salad sandwiches she has prepared nearly every day during her long tenure dating back to 1942, was elated when the two former chief executives entered the nearly empty snack bar and embraced her warmly.
