Inconsistency breeds inconsistency.
You recently reported a story about some young men who were arrested for possessing alcoholic beverages. The young men are old enough to vote; they can enter into a contract; they can marry without their parent’s consent; and they can be drafted into the Armed Services.
But, and this is the first inconsistency, they may not legally purchase or possess alcoholic beverages.
The second inconsistency is that you reported their names. Their crime was only a crime because they were under age. Normally, the names of under age criminal defendants are kept confidential, both by the courts and the newspapers.
Now, I believe that fear of public exposure deters crime. For that, and for other reasons, I favor publishing the names of criminals, both
