property owner Col. Nels Parsons have agreed to terms for installing a second gravity feed tank for the water system. Tompkins reported that the Fourth of July committee still needs volunteers. He also requested that town businesses provide him with email addresses and webpage links for the town’s webpage. Council member Ray Gooch received three different designs from Jay Monroe for the new Visitor’s Center. They will be reviewed at the council’s June 24 meeting.
Public Hearing
Gene Leggett, representing Washington Fire Company requested the council reconsider its proposed $6,500 cut from the fire department budget. Critzer, council member Peter Skowronski, and members of the public supported reinstatement of the money.
Members of the council and the public appeared sharply divided on whether of not money should be takefi from ongoing projects and put against potential wastewater system needs. Town attorney Frank Reynolds read a statement from the mayor into the record. Wrote Willis, “I do not believe... we should make broad and arbitrary cuts in everything we do...The items we budgeted in the past had purpose...I do believe that the proposed budget requires...further thought.”
The council plans to vote on the budget at the June 24 meeting.
