Our View
Good choice Board's decision to investigate IB program further a good one
Kudos (a whole case) to the Rappahannock School Board for its decision to allocate funding to examine the International Baccalaureate program, and its possible advantages for students here, and putting the item back into the school budget for next year. The program would be a real asset to students capable of taking advantage of it. How can a program that fosters the ideals of international understanding and responsible citizenship be a bad thing? Through the interdisciplinary course called Theory of Knowledge and a “creativity, action, and service,” or CAS, program (part of the IB) students are required to participate in the arts, sports and community activities which encourage them to share their energies and talents with their community. The program helps - students develop into compassionate, concerned members of society. It’s hard to figure how that could possibly be construed as detrimental.
