Gangel presented the capital expenditures report and requested that the $142,000 received from the board of supervisors be reprogrammed into subcategories under Function 6000. Of that, $37,000 would be used for scheduled repairs at RCHS and RCES. The remaining $105,000 would be used to pay for the expansion architect and obtaining the prospective bond for the high school expansion project.
The Facilities Subcommittee ratified the selection of low bidder Crenshaw Construction, Inc., of Culpeper, as the contractor on the restroom renovation and shop roof projects. Crenshaw bid $209,500 to complete the work by the summer’s end.
Assistant position
The board discussed the continuing need for a financial/policy assistant in the superintendent’s office. Said Gangel, “This position didn’t make it through the board of supervisors’ cuts. We’re not in crisis right now, but we soon will be. Policies need to be done by July and we don’t have a budget together to give you.” There is just one person assigned to prepare a $7 million budget, as well as other payroll and financial tasks.
