Summer Solstice celebration

Horseshoe tournament set
Chester Gap Volunteer Fire Department will host a horseshoe tournament at noon on June 20. The cost is $12 per team; $6 for singles and pitch your own shoes. Trophies awarded to winning teams. For more information call Jeff at 636-3279.
Parking volunteers needed
, A fun and profitable way to raise money for your organization is to come out on July 4 during the Town of Washington’s 4th of July celebration and donate your time parking cars. This is an easy fund raiser for local, nonprofit organizations because proceeds from parking are divided among groups who have helped with the parking of cars. Volunteers are needed to work shifts during the day’s festivities and in the evening before and after the fireworks display. To sign up as a volunteer, contact organizer Ellen Manson, 675-1349.
Hitt dinner scheduled
The fourth annual Hitt Researchers Dinner is planned for Friday, July 17 at the Holiday Inn in Culpeper. Prepaid reservations of $17 per person made payable to Mary Doyle Johnson must be mailed by July 11 to Mrs. H.W. McNamara, 1600 South Joyce Street, #833, Arlington, Va. 22202.
Committee to meet
The Odd Fellows Cemetery Committee will have their regular meeting on June 23 at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church dining hall in Washington. Any person in the community interested in, the cemetery is welcome to attend.
Bicycle parade slated
Area children are invited to participate in the annual bicycle parade at the Town of Washington’s celebration on the 4th of July. A highlight every year, the parade is open to children from birth to 14 years of age. Prizes are awarded for the “most patriotically decorated.” Children in strollers and in wagons are invited. The lineup starts at 4:15 p.m. behind the jail; the parade starts at 4:30 p.m. For further information, contact Ellen Manson, parade organizer at 675-1349.
Farm Shozu scheduled
The Culpeper-Madison-Rappahannock Farm Show will be held July 23-27 at the Culpeper Agricultural Enterprises in Culpeper. Farm Show catalogs are available at the Rappahannock Extension Office and at Rappahannock County Elementary' and High Schools. This year’s catalog cover was designed by Devin Day of Rappahannock County. Call the Extension Office for more information about the Farm Show at 675-3619.
