Board member Ron Makela asked about Megan’s Law and laws pertaining to juvenile court records in the county as outlined in the state General Assembly’s Statutory Update. He wanted to be sure that the school board was receiving any information they should be getting. “My concern is particularly at the high school level when we have a student transfer,” he said. County school superintendent Dr. David Gangel added that information concerning adjudications and convictions of students “are not part of the student’s record.

Gangel displayed a completed copy of the K-12 curriculum guide book which is being reviewed again this summer by school personnel and the board’s Education Programs subcommittee. Progress is also being made on health, property, and vehicle insurance needs. The requests for proposals for property liability have been advertised. Bids are due back on June 18. Health insurance competitive negotiation bids are due June 30. Gangel recommended that the Virginia School Board Association pool be considered an option for vehicle insurance coverage. The board agreed.
