The Board of Supervisors of Rappahannock County, Virginia, proposes for passage an ordinance making certain amendments to Chapter 22, "Fire Companies and Rescue Squads," of the Rappahannock County Code.

In summary the proposed amendments to Chapter 22 are as follows:

Article 1: As it currently exists, this Article provides a State death benefit to fire and rescue personnel killed in line of duty. The amendment corrects references to sections of the Code of Virginia which have been assigned new numbers, and the names of County fire and rescue organizations. Article 2: This is a new County Code provision which provides a County death/disability benefit to firefighters kiMed/disabled in the line of duty. It is believed these benefits were previously provided by resolution: but not codified Article 3: As it currently exists, this Article exempts junior firefighters and their supervisors from certain provisions of the child labor laws. The amendments update citations to the Code of Virginia. Article 4: Unchanged from current version. Article 5: This is a new County Code provision which extends sovereign immunity to fire and rescue members acting in the line of duty. This memorializes by ordinance sovereign immunity heretofore extended by written agreement. Article 6: Establishes one fire and rescue district in Rappahannock County for purposes of the fire and rescue tax. This amendment is declarative of existing law established by resolution.

Any person who wishes to comment may do so at a public hearing on the proposed amendments at 7:00 p.m. on July 6, 1998 at the Courthouse Building, Gay Street, Washington, Virginia.
