Fran Eldred requested approval to operate a tworoom bed and breakfast in Mrs. Coxe’s Tavern. In presenting her application, Eldred observed that the property had “been in almost continuous use as an inn, tavern, hotel, or ordinary since 1740.” Several citizens strongly supported the building returning to its original purpose. The council approved her request unanimously.
Reynolds reported that the title examiner did not complete the research on the Odd Fellows cemetery property so it remains unclear whether or not the town owns any of the property. He also stated that he had not recorded the town survey approved at the last council meeting. Financial reports
Treasurer Elaine Viguerie reported capital reserves of $268,431.73 and total town consolidated assets of $274,616.23.
Willis requested that the council authorize continued automatic payment of several critical recurring bills, such as the town hall mortgage, water system loans, employee paychecks and quarterly state taxes. These bills have to be paid at a specific time and often cannot be held for approval at the next council meeting. Tbmpkins and council member Peter Skowronski asked that the Treasurer include these bills for information purposes on each month’s bill paying list. The council unanimously approved the measure, with Tbmpkins’ modification.
New council member Rene Ruffher volunteered to join the Wastewater Study Committee and the Parking Committee, chaired by Skowronski. Tbmpkins asked Viguerie and Kohler to ensure that the rosters were updated whenever there was a change.
Skating park
Laurie Marshall aske(l the council to contribute $500 to the construction of a new skate boarding park at the county recreation center on U.S. 211. Council members Steve Critzer and Ruffner spoke on behalf of the proposal. The council approved up to $500 in matching funds against any money provided by the county.
