school expansion project. The committee also evaluated a second company, BMK of Alexandria, which scored very well and even tied Ha^es Large in several categories^According

to Tble, should negotiations with Hayes Large prove unsatisfactory, BMK would be an acceptable substitute. The board authorized county school superintendent Dr. David Gangel to open negotiations with Hayes Large regarding contract specifics and price.

Points to be covered include designing the building, preparing blueprints and other shop documents, overseeing the construction, accounting for contract deliverables and approving billing. The architectural company will not construct the building. That contract will be advertised separately.

Opening of school

Gangel reported that maintenance manager Bill Deal made excellent progress over the summer in completing projects. Also the roof repairs and restroom renovations are hoped to be completed by the opening of school, despite delayed delivery of restroom partitions.

Landscaping and shrub relocation at the high school is scheduled. Raye Tupper added that the PTO playground committee has been working hard to check playground equipment at the elementary school for deterioration and upgrade whatever is required.

Budget-finance

The school budget is approved for FY98-99. Funds were reprogrammed from two accounts to a payroll account to cover the salary of the comity’s new finance and policy assistant position.
