Rodeo will return to Great Meadow

The Beast of the East Stampeded rodeo, sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association will return to Great Meadow in The Plains on Sept. 5 and 6. All major rodeo sports will be contested from barrel racing, calf roping, bare back and saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling and bull riding. The rodeo will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 5 and 2 p.m. on Sept. 6. The event will offer a petting zoo, mutton busting and a calf scramble for the younger set. The cost is $12 in advance for adults, $7 for children in advance, or $15 and $9, with ages six and under free. For details call 703-242-1071.

Cub Scout registration set

Any boy in grade first through fifth who would like to join cub scouts may do so at the Back-to-School night Sept. 15 at Rappahannock County Elementary School at 7 p.m. Registration fee is $4.20 plus $4.65 if you want Boys Life magazine. For additional information call Joe Peregory at 937-6163. Also present will be a representative from Boy Scout Troop 200 for boys in grades six and up.

Soccer registration open

Services Board to meet

The Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Board will have its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 1 p.m. at the Bradford Road Office in Culpeper.

Artwork on display

Glassworks Gallery will be hosting the artwork of Phillip Smiley during the month of August. Smiley is a county resident currently enrolled in the graduate program at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Smiley’s show is a wonderful collection of impressionistic and surrealistic images and shows the depth of this growing artists imagination. The gallery is located one mile west of Sperryville and is open Thursday through Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
