Knowledge of area helps when faced

with solving crimes

The Rappahannock Sheriff’s Office has been

investigating a string of larcenies since March

of this year. The cases here were linked to a series of multi jurisdictional cases. This week the sheriff’s office wrapped up the cases concerning Rappahannock. In so doing they uncovered more information about the crimes than had previously been discovered.

The woman involved in the crimes was actually a participant and not a fence for receiving and selling the stolen property. Our sheriff’s office uncovered that information and the woman now awaits trial on two counts of grand larceny and two counts of burglary. If not for the diligent and persistent work by the sheriff’s office these facts may never have come to light. She had already been tried and released for the lesser crime in Prince William County despite the fact that the man involved has been incarcerated in Prince William County since May.

Although Rappahannock does not see the rampant crime that neighboring counties to the north or south do it still has its share of larcenies and drug related cases.

Were it hot for the fact that the law enforcement personnel here are local and know the county and the people here as well as they do it could be a different story. The fact is they do and it works. They contribute in a big way toward making Rappahannock the place it is.
