The Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office will increase traffic law enforcement in the sixth phase of Smart, Safe and Sober, the statewide program aimed at stopping traffic deaths. Authorities will place special focus on preventing injury and death to young drivers. Area motorists can expect enforcement to step up beginning Sept. 1.
Law enforcement will conduct saturation patrols, in which concentrations of officers are placed in strategic areas to be on the lookout for those with moving violations. Traffic checkpoints also will be held to check for other potential violations.
There is special concern about youth drivers because of their rate of involvement in. crashes.
