Rappahannock County educators — teachers, administrators, custodians, cafeteria workers, bus drivers, aides and support staff — sensed an air of change when they returned to school Monday, Aug. 24 for an opening convocation that challenged them to “pursue their passion" and usher in a new school year committed to cooperation, teamwork, and “more success with less stress.”

An early morning coffee hour — complete music by student pianists Jami and Wendy Gillis — served as a prelude to a day-long seminar with motivational speaker Sam Bartlett who offered the staff strategies for increased effectiveness.

Bartlett’s presentation underscored a number of important concepts: the power of vision, the importance of conflict management, the ability to appreciate differences and the importance of accentuating positives.
