Burke indicted
on drug charges

In September the Rappahannock Sheriff’s Office arrested Edward Garfield Burke III on charges of manufacture of marijuana. Burke, of Stanley, was arrested and charged with felony manufacture of marijuana with intent to distribute. A juvenile was also charged in the incident. Burke was also charged with distribution of marijuana to a minor.
This week the charges were brought before the Grand Jury which handed up two indictments in the case. Burke was indicted for manufacturing marijuana and conspiracy to manufacture marijuana. Pre- ( trial motions will be filed by Dec. 17 at which time Burke is set to return to court. The juvenile involved in the case has also been charged with manufacturing marijuana and has also been charged with possession of marijuana^ He is scheduled to appear in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on Dec. 10.
Jesse Earl Pond III, who was arrested for drinking while driving and possession of cocaine on April 24, entered a conditional plea of guilty in court last week. His case is set for sentencing on Jan. 11, 1999. Pond will continue on bond until the sentencing.
Mark Allen Hancock, arrested and convicted in 1990 of breaking and entering and larceny, was before the court last week for
Cbation violation. Hancock admitted he
a drug abuse problem and told the judge he would like to be in a program for drug abuse. He had previously completed the Stafford Detention Center Program and was scheduled for the Boxwood Program
