Don’t let scam artists make
a victim out of you
People identifying themselves as AT&T service
technicians, conducting a test on telephone lines
have been calling the local area.
They state that to complete the test the consumer should touch nine(9), zero(O), the pound sign(#) and then hang up. Don’t be fooled! The telephone company says that by pushing 90# you give the requesting individual full access to your telephone line, which allows them to place long distance telephone calls billed to your home phone number.
Other types of phone scams have also been reported in the area for everything from changing to another carrier to credit card fraud. Some of the phone Beams have apparently originated from area jails or prisons. Please beware! This type of scam is definitely possible and even more difficult to correct.
Do not press 90# for anyone and do not give out Information or credit card numbers over the phone unless you know who or what company or organization you are talking to.
