Rappahannock’s Child Care and Learning Center has been serving the county for 22 years. The center is funded by donations and private foundation grants that subsidize the tuition families pay. In addition to serving families who can afford to pay tuition, scholarships are awarded to help lower income families.
This weekend the CCLC will host its third Fall Auction and Party, the proceeds of which will got toward the scholarship fund.
The auction will be held Nov. 14 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Washington School on Mount Salem Avenue. The entrance charge is $10 per person and includes food and beverages.
Local businesses and individuals have generously donated a plethora of items which will be up for grabs such as: a New England Fan back Windsor Chair by Charlie Coombs (see photo); hand painted decorative furniture by Cindy Isom; a Yamaha 2015D organ and bench seat; vintage dresses; a Shaker plant stand by Ton von Fange; lamps; a photograph by Chris Johns; an antique cradle; a Chippendale reproduction game table; antique rockers; a crocheted heirloom spread; antique quilts; oriental rugs; antique chairs; old books; primitive pine kitchen tables; silver (sterling and plate pieces); a new ping pong table; handcrafted earrings by Chris Goodine, Jennifer Greene and Jewelry by Edmund; garden items; fly fishing equipment; Nordic Track WalkFit 5000 (new); a rowing machine; folk art collectibles; Redskin tickets; Beanie Babies (new and retired); flower arrangements ! by Rosa Crocker; weekend vacation spree; Christmas items; and much more. All manner of furniture, glass-1 ware, art and other miscella- { neous items will also be auctioned.
The center provides year round full time care for chil-, dren three weeks to 13 years! old. It is the only nationally! accredited preschool in a 10 county area (accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children). It is the only school-aged child care program in the county that provides an after school day care program and a full time summer camp. Correction
Last week’s article on the Six Year Road Plan contained information on Keyser Run Road. The road is not slated for paving west of Route 623. It is, however, slated for some improvements specifically for the sharp turn that exists on the road. The Rappahannock News regrets the error.
