At what was a sparsely attended school board meeting last week, board member Rosa Crocker said she wished there was a way of upping the visibility of the school budget process to the public for the January meeting. “I’m disappointed we’ve gotten to December and no one is here from the public to take part in the discussion of this budget process.”
The board was ready for public comment on this year’s budget but feedback was not forthcoming. Dr. John Tble, board chair, said it is always hard to get people out in December.
Dr. David Gangel, superintendent, discussed projections for salary increases but said it is not going to be a year to expect large increases in salary.
“The supervisors have been very kind to us,” Tole said, “and provided funds for construction. We have to be very careful how we proceed.” Crocker suggested forming a committee, like the citizen committee formed to study the expansion at the high school, to study ways the schools can help the county in finding ways to fund.the school budget. “We need to make a formal effort to approach this issue and not just talk about it,” she said..
