Mary Ann Kuhn recently received the hospitality industry’s prestigious AAA Four Diamond award for 1999 for her Middleton Inn on the Main Street in the Town of
| Washington. This is remarkable especially since she received it less than three years since the bed and breakfast inn opened.
Kuhn acknowledged being a perfectionist who was constantly trying to improve her inn, but said people are what she Ukes best about innkeeping.
“I want this to be a perfect moment for people. I put myself in their place and try to be one step ahead in anticipating their needs without being intrusive. When people arrive tired and leave with a huge smile, I know Fm doing something right,” she said.
In addition to the AAA Four Diamond rating, Middleton Inn alio has received highly favoralne reviews from the Washington Post, Washingtonian Magazine and several guidebooks.
Charming and sumptuous, Middleton has special touches like fires burning in each of the nine fireplaces, large floral arrangements in every room and triple sheeting on each bed — bottom, top and over the blanket sheets.
Guest beds are turned down each evening and truffles or mints are placed on the bed pillows. Kuhn said she spared no expense from linens to furniture to help make her guests feel pampered. Everything served to guests is presented on silver trays, whether it is afternoon tea or a tube of toothpaste a guest forgot to bring.
