The book BATTLE MOUNTAIN AFFAIR is a well documented 85 page detailed report of Civil war engagements at Battle Mountain, va near present day Laurel Mills and viewtown. VA. On July 22, 23 and 24. 1863, Rappahannock County was buzzing with troop activity as Confederate General A.P. Hill and others were returning from Pennsylvania on their way to Culpejx'r, VA. Much skirmishing occurred as the Union Army was in pursuit. The book contains detailed re[x>rts of General H.L. Benning (Confederate). General George Custer (Union), and J.E.B Stuart (Confederate), as well as Individual unit reports and two diary accounts. The book also contains a map. and illustrations, as well as local lore.
