In 1994 Robb won re-election only because the Republicans nominated Oliver North, a controversial figure in his own right whose candidacy was snubbed by Republican Senator John Warner, who has become the state’s most popular politician. Interestingly, both Warner and North have spoken enthusiastically of Allen’s all but certain candidacy.
I have on my desk Christmas cards from both the Allen and Robb families.
One shows Robb in casual dress at his McLean home surrounded by wife Lynda and children Lucinda, Catharine and Jennifer. The other shows Allen in coat and tie holding eight month old daughter Brooke while wife, Susan, is flanked by daughter Tyler and son, Forrest at their home on the James River in Chesterfield County.
