Santa Claus will be at the Old Sperryville Bookshop on Sunday, Dec. 20. The big fellow in the red suit will entertain children and tell Christmas stories from 1 to 3 p.m.

Havura Ktana to meet

Havura Ktana will meet on Sunday, Dec. 20 at 1:30 p.m. at the home of Marcia and Mervyn Jeffries, 110 Strother Lane, Washington. Dr. Mervyn Jeffries, part-time resident of Rappahannock County, will speak of his experiences growing up as a member of the vibrant Jewish community of Dublin, Ireland, in the 1930s, 40s and early 50s. Following his talk, traditional Hanukah refreshments will be served. For information or directions call 675-1324.

Karate classes to begin

Shorin-Ryu Okinawan karate classes will begin Jan. 20 at Ki Theatre in Washington. Classes will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 5:30 p.m. for juniors and from 5:30 to 7 p.m. for adults. Paintings on display

The Old Sperryville Bookshop presents a selection of oil paintings by local artist Steven Kenny. On view through December are a variety of past works, all meticulously rendered in Mr. Kenny’s surreal and witty style. The shop is located at 44 Main Street in Sperryville. from now until Christmas the store will be open seven days a week, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. On Dec. 17 and 18 the shop will be open until 7:30 p.m. Call 987-8444 for more information.

Movie at The Theatre

The movie, Smoke Signals will be shown at The Theatre on Gay Street in Washington on Dec. 18 at 8 p.m. promptly.

Play group at Trinity

Band Boosters to meet

The Rappahannock Band Boosters will meet Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the high school. The public is invited.

Fundraiser underway

The Rappahannock County High School Athletic Boosters are beginning their main fundraiser of the year. For a donation of $20 you could win the grand prize of $1,000; second place $750 and third place $250. Prizes will be given away at the Dec. 18 boy’s varsity basketball game. You do not need to be present to win. Proceeds benefit the athletes and the athletic department. “There are only 200 tickets available, so get yours now,” said an organizer. Tickets are available from any booster member or at any home game.

Swing dance lessons continue
