season progresses) is a performance titled “Balalaika!” by the Washington Balalaika Society Orchestra. This premier Russian folk orchestra of our region, founded in 1988, plays balalaikas, domras, bayans and more.
Also offered at the Theatre during this Spring Season are a play (title to be announced) to be presented by Christendom College Players in March, and several community programs for which there is no admission charge including: the eighth annual Variety Show presented and performed by members of the Washington Baptist Church in February; the annual James A. Bland Music Contest organized by the Rappahannock Lions Club for local schoolchildren, also in February; and the thirteenth annual celebration honoring the great civil rights leader, the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., to be held on January 18.
Films are presented at the Theatre twice monthly, on Friday nights, by the Rappahannock Association for Arts and the Community (RAAC). “Whale Rider” is scheduled for Jan. 16; “Rabbit-Proof Fence” and “In America” will be shown in February; “Down from the Mountain” and Mystic River” in March.
