County Attorney Peter H. Luke said the fines conform to current fines levied in other parts of Virginia.
If a motorist pays the fine, the amount will be as stated. If the motorist chooses to challenge the ticket in court and loses, the judge of the District Court may choose to add court costs. If a motorist chooses to challenge the ticket and wins there are no court costs.
The ordinance gives the Sheriffs office the right to remove a vehicle with three or more unpaid tickets. Luke said he wrote the ordinance to cover a "Denver Boot," the immobilization devices used throughout the country, but "we don't have a boot."
