When we heard that, entirely on their own steam, the tavern decided to make us the beneficiary of a fund-raising event, we were taken aback. That management hopes to create other events to benefit other county fire and rescue companies is just terrific.
Particularly since Sept. 11, it’s easy to assume that communities are far more committed to their fire and rescue services. Our stalwart supporters remain true. Other new and existing supporters are clearly moved to greater generosity. But enlisting new local resources to help meet the demands of our work is still a day-to-day challenge.
