together
In what was the biggest turnout of our community in Rappahannock County in memory, some 1,000 persons came to the high school to bid farewell to Rappahannock County High School student and football star Dylan Corbin. It was reminiscent of the turnout for another popular and talented RCHS student Mary Beth Williams who also died in a tragic auto accident here nearly seven years ago. Each time a child is lost, all of us feel the loss. The public expression of it, the coming together to embrace those left behind, is impressive and what gives Rappahannock its special soul. Now the hard part begins, trying to make some sense of this tragedy so that another child doesn't wind up wrapped around a tree, so that parents and brothers and sisters and teachers don’t forever have that gnawing ache when they think about their loss years from now. The ongoing Virginia State Police investigation may turn up that alcohol was a factor. Charges may be filed, fingers pointed. None of this will bring back a life so tragically taken. And who is to say it won't happen again. We need to come together before this happens again.
