The obvious purpose was a John Kerry make-over to present him as a centrist, pragmatic, business-friendly war hero-Democrat in order to give him a chance to carry some states, such as Virginia, that have not been carried by a Democratic presidential candidate since Lyndon Johnson in 1964.
The only poll that will count, as the saying goes, will come in November. But this observer thinks, along with many other pundits, that any great amount of expenditures of money or time in Virginia by Kerry will waste resources that could be better used in the socalled battleground states such as Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, et al.
