Special to The Rappahannock News
Long before "eating local” became trendy, the annual “Taste of Rappahannock” showcased the county’s local bounty at a delicious dinner and social event held to benefit the county’s public school children.
Celebrating its 12th year, the “Taste of Rappahannock” is being held Saturday, Sept. 12 at historic Belle Meade School along scenic Route 231 outside Sperryville.
With tables set exquisitely with fresh flowers and yes, even vegetables, from local gardens, the evening promises to be better than ever. Sponsored by the Headwaters Foundation, this popular event supports multiple programs dedicated to advancing educational opportunities for children in the county.
The evening includes the best of Rappahannock County’s culinary delights, using fresh, locally grown produce and meats generously contributed by local farms. Some of the produce is grown by Rappahannock County Hi^h School students through Headwaters’ Farm-to-Table program under the direction of Trista Scheuerlein.
Dishes are prepared by local restaurants and the high school students under the direction of culinary instructor Mary Arthur, and Terri Lehman, owner of Epicurious Cow (Ecowt A sampling of the county’s award-winning wines accompanies the dinner
