months earlier, she said, when she first mentioned to Sidney’s mother, her friend Shelly Dodson, her idea for using watch faces in a mosaic of a large tree filled with birds. When Shelly Dodson said she thought her daughter would be especially intrigued due to her fascination with clocks, Candace decided her reason to create the art would be just that: to captivate the girl’s imagination. '
Which it did — and does. When Clough and her family presented the surprise gift to Sidney and her family and friends at the Dodson home last month, Clough says her reaction was a big smile, a breathy “Wow!" and a joyous flailing of arms and legs. And now, Clough says, at least once a day Sidney requests that her mother set her in front of the mosaic so she can gaze at it and study the details.
And what details: The mosaic incorporates stained glass, plate shards, watches, jewelry, beads and keys, porcelain and glass tiles, shells, rocks, colored bits of mirror and polymer clay.
