In 200G, the Farmland Preservation Program finalized its first purchase of development rights with the Meadow Grove Farm Easement. This was a joint effort involving the county and a number of conservation and environmental groups
This easement permanently protects some 340 acres of Rappahannock County from development. It is part of the land that has been farmed by the family of James Massie, owner of Meadow Grove Farm, since the 1800s.
Layt year. Manfred and Etta Call, owners of Muskrat Haven Farm near Ben Venue, joined the farmland preservation program and donated 110 acres.
Total easement protection in Rappahannock now stands at 27.625 acres or 20.3 percent of all private land.
Rappahannockers take their farmland seriously and protect it vigilantly. We sing their praises for doing so.
