Already they’ve seen an increase in business since they took over in June, said Coffey.
“We appreciate our local patronage. Supporting the local country store is a big deal,” he added.
The long-time establishment run by Beverly Samuels and her mother for the past 28 years, between the two of them, is the only gas station/market on the southern side of the county, and now one of four gas stations and seven markets still open in the county.
Hackley’s Store in Amissville, an old-time general store which had served the county continuously for 75 years, and the Hillsdale Country Store both have closed in recent months due to the economy.
Changes are already noticeable: There are flowers and decorations by the door, new banners along the road, and the interior has been opened up to make it easier to get around.
