In dark-blue moonlit sky above, tiny unicorns and minuscule dogs double as stars. Each bird in the wave-like branches corresponds to a watch face, and seems to have its own personality and story to tell.
But since Clough also did the work publicly — online, that is, posting work-in-progress pictures, descriptions and requests for feedback on her flickr.com Web photo gallery and several other sites more specific to mosaics, a pursuit that Clough took up about three years ago — it captured the imagination of many others. And it continues to sprout unexpected connections.
Online, as Clough worked on the piece and uploaded photos, artists from all over the globe watched and cheered its progress. Tesserae (the pieces used in mosaic making) were donated by artists in Illinois, Florida, Tbxas, Michigan and Northern Virginia. Artists on several online forums described the art as “magical” and “inspired”; one referred to it as “the great dancing tree.”
