On the night of August 9 a twister hit F T Valley on Hazel Mountain in the area of State Route 707 The twister was one of the worst storms to afflict an area of Rappahannock County in recent years On the property of Mr. and Mrs. William L. Beck and Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Gore a large number of trees were uprooted by the heavy winds In many instances trees were twisted off at the base of the trunk like matchsticks. Fallen trees cut off the entrance to the Beck's cabin while the winds literally tore the roof off the home and bam of Mr Gore
.Joanne van Brederode of Blue Rock Farm. Washington received the reserve champion award from Stanley Magee at the Ruritan Horse Show held Saturday, Amissville. Joanne won in the English Hunter classes. Champion of this group was Betty Dameron of Fredericksburg. Other local riders who championed were Alice Cleary who was champion in the large pony classes and Brigid Cleary w ho took reserve.
Louis Cordle of Sperryville caught his prize large mouth bass in the Hazel River in the mountains. The fish weighted five and three quarter pounds and was twenty-two and a half inches in length Louis was practically overcome with excitement and glee when he arrived at the home of his uncle and aunt Mr. And Mrs. T. J. Pillar to show them his catch,
