The Rappahannock County Sheriffs Office received assistance from the Manassas airbase in its search for sinceconvicted murder suspect Ira Wayne Cloniger, and the airbase has assisted in several marijuana-growing prosecutions - including one crop that was discovered during the Cloniger search, according to Sheriff Connie Smith.
The Fauquier County Sheriffs Office received airbase assistance twice in the last couple of months. The state police airplane from Manassas was called upon while deputies were looking for a missing man near The Plains. It was also used during a manhunt when an inmate escaped from the Fauquier County Adult Detention Center in September.
