retail store and an adjacent assortment of studios, retail and community/cafe space he refers to as the Rappahannock Farm and Art Market. This all would be built in what until recently was the Sperryville Antiques Market at 3 River Lane, about a quarter mile northeast of The Link.
Before the vote to table the matter, Supervisor Chairman Bob Anderson asked that the Tourism Partnership also consider “the county-owned farmhouse next to the Rappahannock Library as a potential visitors center site.
“Further east might also be a good idea,” said Supervisor Ron Frazier, whose district includes Amissville.
There also has been talk privately by some residents in the Town of Washington hoping to have the county choose Washington as the site for the county visitor center since it is the county seat of Rappahannock. One idea floating around is using the Avon Hall estate at the entrance to Washington.
The Tourism Partnership is an ad hoc group of representatives of tourism-related associations including the Washington Hospitality and Visitors Association and representatives of the county's restaurants, wineries, bed and breakfasts and antiques shops.
