at Rappahannock County Elementary School, got through the flu, her mother said, and, though it was less than a week away, still wanted to participate in the annual Harvest Queen Pageant at the Reva Fire Department.
Having lost 10 pounds while she waS sick, however, meant that the dress that had arrived several weeks earlier — and which fit her daughter perfectly, Amy Berry said — no longer fit her at all.
“I didn’t know what to do, and at first I told her I didn’t think we would find another dress in time,” said Amy, who tried to find a different size dress or someone who could alter the dress at several shops in Warrenton and online. “But then I found this wonderful woman who said she could do the alterations. I dropped it off on Tuesday, and she worked on it for a solid day and had it back to us on Wednesday.”
The seamstress, Mary Frances Bywaters of Flint Hill, “did a wonderful job,” said Berry.
Abigail got to be in the Harvest Queen Pageant after all and won 2nd Runner-Up in the Young Division — as well as the awards for Prettiest Eyes and Best
