Col. Evan A. McNear of Greenwood Farm, Washington, has been recognized as the 1969 Outstanding Conservation Fanner of the Year in Rappahannock County. Since Col. McNear purchased Greenwood Farm in the foothills of the Blue Ridge, he has been interested in and done a magnificent job in soil and water conservation. He took a rugged piece of land and made it into one of the most beautiful farms in Virginia.
An era in the educational history of Rappahannock County comes to an end this week when two obsolete school buildings will be sold. The school structures at Sperryville and Washington will go under the auctioneer’s mallet Saturday, closing a chapter which began in 1909. These two buildings were last used in 1967 and the following year the new consolidated facility was opened.
