Officially ‘green’
Thanks to its Farm-toTable program and studentled recycling, Rappahannock County public schools are now officially “green."
The Virginia School Board Association (VSBA) has designated the county’s schools as a “Certified Green School Division” for 2009, Superintendent Robert Chappell told the Board of Supervisors at its monthly meeting Monday afternoon.
VSBA informed Chappell that Rappahannock schools had earned more than 100 points in the association’s Green Schools Challenge for its programs in which:
• Students and staff of the Headwaters-sponsored Farmto-Table program grew organic vegetables for the school’s food-services program and the local Food Pantry;
• The high school’s Leadership Development class provided paper and plastic recycling bins in classrooms, the cafeteria and hallways, and class members volunteered to collect the contents;
