Late last week, Brown and members of WHVA’s executive committee sent a letter to the supervisors asking them to defer a vote on the visitor center until “a formal review” could be conducted.
Brown also had urged WHVA members to attend the supervisors’ meeting to give their input on the visitor center. More than a dozen attended.
Castleton:
A New Tank
In other action, the supervisors voted to authorize an emergency appropriation of $24,654 from the general fund to replace the water tank, cradle and tank suspension system in Castleton Volunteer Fire Company’s tanker truck — one of four in the county that Fire Levy Board member Paul Komar told the board is relied upon to deliver water to fire scenes.
The vote came after Komar described the existing tank, repaired several years ago by the Castleton company for $4,000, as dangerously defective — and leaking large amounts of water on every run. “When the weather gets cold, well be leaving an ice trail everywhere we go," he. said.
Komar also presented a fiveminute informational overview of services provided by the county's seven fire and rescue companies, comprised of 198 trained firefighters and emergency medical technicians. After county support, Komar said, the seven companies have had to make up for a combined shortfall of $557,030 through 2008 —
