Planting each row of trees on the level allows inter-tillage anu still prevents losses of soil and water. lii cultivating, alternate middles are farmed, thus allowing a protective strip of sod between each oulthated strip.
A. C. Kllett, Rixeyville; Clyde 'Weaver, Clpeper; K. T. Willis, dr., Culpeper; and Jim Weaver, Culpeper, have established open ditch drainage systems on their farms. In several cases old ditches were deepened and banks sloped. New ditches were cut to drain remaining wet areas. The ditches were cut by means of a dragline, owned and operated by a local contractor. The dirt removed from the ditches is spread by means of a bulldozer at a later date wheij the dirt has had sufficient time to dry out.
All of the above mentioned farmers have done this type of drainage work previously. Each yefir they add to their system of ditches as conditions are favorable and as additional ditehefc prove necessary. ' '
