The Rappahannock Hunt met at Fletcher’s Double Gate for its annual New Year hunt on January 2. A grand field of 17 indicated that fox-hunting is still a popular pastime and one of the favorite sports brought over by pur forefathers from England.
Jim Bill Fletcher, joint-master was in charge of the field, assisted by Colonel H. H. C. Richards and Jack DeBergh as the whips, and by Earl Yancey, huntsman. It was indeed a pleasure to see sp many Visitors and local friends who came out to hill-top, as we always welcome all hill-toppers.
Earl Yancey cast the hounds - onto Fielding mountain and soon (the eager voice of a hound x indicated that Reynard had passed that way during -the nighty After some nice hound work, the pack broke into full cry which told everyone that the fox had been raised.*
The line led across the fieldsr to a high hill top on the farm of ■Gene and Virginia Wood, where the changed cry of the hounds now said that Reynard had been marked to earth.
Several hounds had switched onto the* line of another fok and were now heard in a nearby woods, so Earl quickly cast his other hounds in that direction. Soon all the hounds were running again as a pack, and the line led toward Fielding mountain where, after several circuits, it headed back across the fields and much to the surprise of everyone, the hounds marked Reynard to earth very close to
