On Decline In Virginia
Virginia's apple tree population is declining.
A. H. Teske, Extension Service fruit specialist at VPI, says the number of apple trees in the State h; s decrea.fd 25 to 30 percent or the last 15 years, and probably will fall another 2i> percent in the next 10 years.
Teske says the marked deei ease in the number of apple trees is caused by many old orchards and too little replanting. Production has not fallen off at a pace to match the decrease in tree numbers, b.t continued decline in the number of trees will seriously affect the State’s apple income. . „
