January 20: The day of exciting tension. There were whispers all over the school. Who would win?- That was a big question, for no one really knew.

Yes, the big day was finally here when the Panthers would meet Sperryville again.

7 p.m.: The auditorium was packed with people supporting both teams.

7:30 p.m.: the whistle blew for the starting of the girls' game. Every tiling was quiet. The ball

^ thrown in to Washington. Sperryville fouled. A free shot was made and tin; enthusiastic crowd went wild.

First one team was ahead, then the other, but the last few minutes of the game, Sperryville girls got a trememlois spurt of energy and ended the game} with a victory of 41-32.

Barbara Brown of the Sperryville ,te5rtk showed outstanding skill by *Sroring 18 points.

Feeling very down-hearted, the Panther girls came hack into the auditorium to cheer"their boys on

victory.' They found that their hopes ..were not in vain, for Edwin Scroggins greatly encouraged them by scoring 25 points. Fyial!y the Panther Midgets came in and finished -the game with 5218.

TOO MUCH FREEDOM

A generation ago. teacherlearned that discipline could lie too severe, and that when this was the case, children did not prosper nor thrive. Instead, they drooped-, became retiring and self-gentered, and cultivated resentment arid hurt feelings that culminated, in rebellion. Therefore, teachers loosened things up a bit so that a child might feel free to speak, to laugh and to be a bit more natural.

To go the whole yvay once started; is a human characteristic,, and many wjell-meaning people loosened discipline to a point where the child was allowed to go his own way, do whatever came to his mind at the time, without restriction. This resulted in trouble for children and«thejir parents. The children felt aloneand they resented the aloneness
