SinOe its organization, throng.i the generous .assistance of the Culpeper Volunteer Fire Company, remarkable .ftpf-otfress has been made in paving for the present equipment, in spite of a few financial hips and downs.

The company has had two fire rhiefs’’since it was first organized, T. C. Lea, and the present tthief, L. V. Merrill. L. J. Turner has served as secretary and treasurer of the company “since its organization, and D. C. Updike served as an assistant fire chief prior to D. Dr' Miller, the present assistant chief.

These members of the fire company have been cajled out at all hours of the day and night, in rain, sleet, snow, and wind, to all parts of the 'county to answer fire calls. These services during the past 12 years have been given voluntarily by these firemen, with the consolation that they are rendering very necessary and worthwhile assistance to the citizens of the county.

The insurance rate in the community has been cut since the fife company came into existanceand these rates may be further reduced through the contributions which are given at this time which will be used to modernize the .fire company’s equipment:
